Course Title: Business Analyst Fundamentals

Target Audience: Individuals who are new to the role of BA and those who have acquired knowledge and some skills through some previous exposure, training, and/or through the BABOK® guide. They understand the role and can describe the appropriate techniques BA use to perform their daily work activities. They have no practical BA experience, and may work under close supervision by following clearly defined processes and plans.
These individuals display a minimum proficiency in the Underlying Competencies but may not be fully aware of how these competencies are displayed in the context of business analysis or their organizations.
Prerequisites (courses and/or assessment or tests): This course is intended for individuals who are new to the practice of Business Analysis. Individuals who are contemplating a career change or seeking to transition into a BA role within their own organizations are encouraged to consider this course option. To attend this course some college experience (or a 4-year college degree) is recommended, but not required. The student should have a good command of the English language which would be helpful in the student's understanding of the course content.

Course Description: This Business Analysis fundamentals course was created from the growing interests of professionals who are seeking to understand the role of the Business Analyst and the Business Analysis lifecycle. This course is meant for those professionals who are seeking a set of "tried and true" business analysis best practices and activities to utilize when performing business analysis work. Both the International Institute of Business Analysis (IIBA TM) and the Project Management Institutes' (PMIs) have attempted to satisfy this growing need by introducing common processes and standards associated with Business Analysis and the role of Business Analyst. This course focuses on business analysis functions as they relate to the development of information technology solutions and the business analysis project life cycle. Course topics include the role of Business Analysis and the business analyst, gathering and documenting business and user requirements, modeling the business processes, business case analysis, and quality management and testing. Textbook required, and not included in course fee.

Criteria for Successful Completion: To receive a Clayton State University Continuing Education Certificate and CEUs, you must attend 80% of the class sessions, actively participate, complete all course assignments, and complete a course evaluation.
